National Resource Center For Asian Languages
CSUF's NRCAL website features Vietnamese children's readers and contest-winning storybooks that support early literacy and heritage language reading.
Storybooks Speech and Hearing is a free website with short illustrated Vietnamese stories arranged by level. It works well for beginners and younger learners, but adult learners can also use it if you want very simple reading practice without signing up or paying.
You get a collection of 40 stories adapted from African Storybook, with levels from 1 to 5. Each story page shows Vietnamese text, English text, and an optional IPA line, so you can compare meaning and pronunciation as you read. The site also lets you switch languages, and every story can be downloaded as a PDF for offline reading.
What makes it useful is the low-pressure format. The stories are short, graded, and easy to revisit, which is helpful for building reading confidence and basic vocabulary. Some stories also include audio, but not every Vietnamese story has it, so listening practice is uneven. There are no lessons, grammar explanations, or speaking activities, so this works best as a reading supplement rather than a full course.
