Vietnam Now! A Vietnamese Language Reader
Parallel Vietnamese-English reader with graded newspaper texts, a short story, poems, notes, exercises, photos, and online audio.
This is a bilingual English Vietnamese picture book for children and families. It is a bedtime story built around animals settling down to sleep, so it works best if you want very gentle reading practice rather than formal language study. If you are a complete beginner learning with a child, it is easy to approach.
The official embebooks product page lists it as a 36 page hardcover picture book. The book teaches simple Vietnamese words tied to animals, where they sleep, nighttime activities, and bedtime routines. That makes it useful for basic vocabulary building and very light reading practice.
What it does well is keep the language narrow and concrete. You are getting familiar everyday themes, illustrations, and a calm read aloud style that fits young learners. It is also written by Jessie Duong through em bé books, a small Bay Area publisher focused on bilingual family books, which gives it a more personal family learning angle.
The tradeoff is that it is still a children’s picture book, not a structured learner text. You should not expect grammar instruction, pronunciation help, exercises, or much depth beyond beginner vocabulary. If you are an adult studying on your own, it is best used as a light reader or family book, not your main Vietnamese resource.
